In ebook, paperback, and hardcover!
This saga began in 2019, when I first began Black Sails to Sunward. I got a publishing deal, walked away from that deal, and suffered delay after delay, but now Under False Colors is out and all three books are available in all three formats, in my own name.
If you don’t know, this is what Under False Colors is about:
In the conclusion of the trilogy, the Martian people must secure their rights once and for all—at the risk of destroying everything they have built over centuries.
Lucy runs from her feelings to Earth, where she tries to gather new allies for the Martian people. Shattered but stubborn, Moira navigates the criminal underworld of Halfpoint Station. But to unearth a plot that threatens the nascent revolution, they will have to swallow their pride and reach out to one another.
Separated from their beloved by the tides of war, Sagan takes up a rifle and marches with the People’s Army. This is their chance to win their rights at last—or is it a betrayal of the man they love?
This book includes:
- more about the history of Mars I’ve hinted at all along
- a Sagan point of view
- relationship angst
- a Mars-accurate map
- original art
- an ill-advised spacewalk
- an incredibly awkward road trip
- a revolution
- at least one kiss
You can get it wherever books are sold. If it’s not at your local library or bookstore, they may be able to order it in for you.
The hardcovers
Meanwhile, I have now re-released all three books as hardcovers!
I was torn here, because I wanted all three books to match, while at the same time I wasn’t happy with the original design. I know few people bought the original hardcovers, but some of you did and I want you to be able to have a matching set.
Solution: I just made them available two places. The original design is on the hardcovers printed by Lulu, and the updated design is on those printed by Ingram (which are then distributed through various bookstores).
Here are the classic hardcovers, available only through the Lulu store. They are bound with a cloth cover under a matte dust jacket. Inside, the text is very slightly updated and freshly laid out.

The updated hardcovers, published through Ingram, have a matte dust jacket over a laminate binding in coordinating colors. They will slowly be populating various online stores. But you can get them at a discount with my special link (this also gives me a larger cut). I am not sure how far they ship this way, so if this approach doesn’t work, check a store in your country. If they don’t have it, they will be able to order it from Ingram.

The interior of both versions is identical–it’s the same book either way, it’s just a matter of what you think will look best on your shelf. The first book contains a new diagram explaining directions in space, a glossary, and the bonus story “Christmas on Mars.” The second book contains a map and a glossary. The third contains the same map and glossary as the paperback.
What if you want to replace the dust covers of the books you’ve got? Just drop me an email at sheilajenne2112@gmail.com and I can send you the files for free. While I don’t have a source to print them myself, a reader has informed me it’s not difficult to get it done at your local print shop.
So if you’ve been waiting to have these three books reunited on your shelf for three years, now you finally can!
